Library Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

When may I visit the Library?

  • From 7:20 a.m. until 7:30 to check out or return books or search for resources. Students must be in class by 7:30 a.m.

  • During class with a pass from a teacher and a specific purpose for your visit.

  • With a class for instruction, research, or to find and check-out books.

  • During lunch, there will sometimes be library passes available. You must first eat your lunch in the cafeteria - no food may be brought into the library.

  • After school any day until 2:30.

Students without a correct pass will be sent back to class.

Do I need a library card?

  • No. You will use your student ID number (the same number used to login to the computer) to check out books.

How many books may I check out?

  • Students may check out as many books as they can manage responsibly. That means as many books as you can keep track of, return on time (or remember to renew), and not lose.

How long may I keep a book?

  • Books are checked out for 3 weeks and may be renewed for an additional 3 weeks.

  • That said, please return books as soon as you’re finished with them so that others can read and enjoy them!

Where do I return books?

  • You may return books to the "book return" slot in the circulation desk.Sometimes you will also see book return boxes placed around the building, so feel free to use those.

If I have overdue books, may I check out more books?

  • Yes, you can. We’ll ask you where the overdue books are and help you renew them or come up with a strategy to return them.

Are there fines for overdue books?

  • At this time, there are no fines for overdue materials.

What do I do if I lose a book, or it gets really damaged?

  • Talk to a librarian as soon as possible. We understand that sometimes library materials get lost or damaged: we care most about your honesty and ability to take responsibility for what happened, and will help to figure out a plan.

Can I volunteer in the library?

  • Yes, we welcome both student and parent volunteers. Please talk to a librarian!
