Largest R3 Planting Comes to LHMS
Science 7 students engaged in an authentic environmental stewardship project this week. Langston Hughes partnered with Fairfax County Ecologists from the Stormwater Management Division and Merrifield Garden Center to plan the largest R3 project. 7th grade students and our amazing parent volunteers planted 2,500 native plants in three different locations on the Hughes campus. These 2,500 plants will amplify our biodiversity footprint here in Reston and supports the Chesapeake Bay Watershed! Students learned the importance of planting native plants, their impacts on our waterways and the natural flood management that these plants will provide.
